Weed by the numbers: Seattle-area marijuana sales lead; big tax windfall for state

It’s a little tough to draw any big conclusion about state-licensed marijuana sales in Washington just yet … what with the scattered opening of stores, early supply crunches and the fact that these businesses are on their own once they get through the very expensive gauntlet of qualifying for and getting a license …
So, the only big winner for sure will be Washington state government. With total sales through Dec. 1 coming in at $48,462,549, the state will draw $12,115,637 in excise taxes (that does not include retail sales taxes).
