SNOHOMISH — At 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7, the City Council will hold its public hearing and vote on the proposed ordinance to ban recreational marijuana businesses in town.
The City Council meets at the school district administration building, 1601 Ave. D.
This vote comes three weeks after the council decided to create the ban ordinance in front of an enthusiastic “vocal minority” crowd. Until then, the council was poised to formally vote for allowing marijuana businesses.
The opposition group NOPE (No Operational Pot Enterprises) held a flash mob of more than 60 people before the decisive Sept. 2 meeting.
Mayor Karen Guzak, who had been enthusiastic about allowing retail pot into Snohomish, changed her mind for the original ordinance to allow it, citing the passion of the outspoken individuals who spoke out against it.
