Cannabis firm Privateer raises $40 million for legal pot business

Legal pot is fast becoming big business.

Yet in a plainly decorated office in Seattle’s Eastlake neighborhood, there is little sign of the millions of dollars that Privateer Holdings has raised to invest in or buy cannabis industry companies.

In fact, the biggest sign of anything agricultural is a large painting of a bunch of bananas in CEO Brendan Kennedy’s office.

“I’m fascinated by bananas,” Kennedy said. The fruit was first imported to the U.S. in 1870. By the turn of the century, Americans were eating millions of bunches. Could marijuana be on a similar trajectory to mass acceptance?
