Medical marijuana license requirement proposed for Seattle

Medical marijuana license requirement proposed for Seattle

Posted on November 24, 2014 | By Jake Ellison

In the absence of leadership from the Legislature, Mayor Ed Murray is striking out on his own to regulate the burgeoning medical marijuana market in Seattle.

The punchline: The number of store fronts for medical marijuana collectives would be reduced to those either already in a permitted zone or able to squeeze into one and meet other requirements to gain a license issued by the city. (The council already has zoning restrictions for big areas of the city, in grey on the map at left.)

According to maps presented at the mayor’s symposium on the matter held last week, the proposal would reduce the more than 330 existing medical stores and collective gardens to about 187.
