State orders 9 medical marijuana dispensaries to shut down

The state is cracking down on medical marijuana and has ordered nine dispensaries to close their doors.
Nine Oregon businesses, including six in Portland, received cease and desist letters telling some owners to shut down immediately or risk facing fines or criminal prosecution.
The Oregon Health Authority says it’s sending a message to stores to comply or pay the price.
“We are going to start looking for these types of places,” Tom Burns of the Health Authority said in April.
That was the state’s promise about a month after lawmakers required dispensary owners to apply for state licenses in order to stay open.
Some of the places told to close were unlicensed, too close to schools or too close to other dispensaries.
