Pro marijuana group says alcohol is riskier, and they say opponent agreed

ANCHORAGE — Each side in the battle over legalizing marijuana in Alaska has accused the other of dishonesty, and this week saw a new controversy in the already feisty contest: Did a legalization opponent at a debate Tuesday in Soldotna really say pot is not as dangerous as alcohol?
That’s the claim from the Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol campaign, which is trying to convince voters to approve a November ballot measure that would legalize personal use of marijuana for adults and set up regulation of the drug’s cultivation, sale and taxation. The pro-pot group says anti-legalization debater Thomas Tougas, speaking on behalf of the Big Marijuana Big Mistake campaign Tuesday, agreed with them about the relative danger of marijuana and alcohol.
